Rnd 5:  Kings Langley 213, Greystanes 4/51 - Stumps Day 1

Greystanes in trouble after late day collapse...

Kings Langley won the toss and elected to bat at the first match at the Greystanes Sports Ground.  After a good start, Kings Langley saw off the Greystanes opening bowlers but where soon in trouble as first change bowlers Simon Agius and Joe Puglisi claimed 3 quick wickets between them.  Joe was unlucky not to get his second and the teams fourth when a comprehensive LBW decision went against the home team.

Kings lost their 4th wicket right on drinks when Joe Puglisi took a diving catch on the boundary right in front of the Kings bench.  Some of their number called for the catch to be called a six but some did not and ultimately the umpire gave the batsman out and at drinks Kings were 4/113.

Greystanes should have kicked on and followed through and it looked that way with a quick fire 4 wickets to Jason Ney but the last two wickets wagged the tail and Kings were finally dismissed for 213.

Clayton Meteyard and Will Graham opened the innings with an hour and a quarter to play and comfortably played the fiery Kings opening bowlers well.  It was rumoured that Kings were not a great bowling side and this proved to be the case with the first change bowlers being of the very slow variety.

But Greystanes lost their heads and Meteyard skied one into the deep and then with 15 minutes left to play the home side lost another 3 wickets, including a bad run out to be 4/51 at stumps and with a lot of work to do.

Greystanes win Rnd 4 on Forfeit

Due to the big rugby and racing in Melbourne, Greystanes' Round 4 opponents decided to forfeit as 14 of their 16 players were unavailable...

Collapse sees Greystanes fall to Baulkham Hills

Greystanes has lost its second round match to Baulkham Hills.  Winning the toss and fielding first, Greystanes looked for early wickets but came away second best when Baulkham Hills scored 249 and then had Greystanes 1/17 at stumps on Day 1.

Day 2 saw a massive collapse that had the visiting team reeling at 9/76.  A 52 run 10th wicket partnership by Wayne Agius and Terry Hoban saw some sort of respectability to score, but it was all too late.

Following on, Agius and Hoban opened to continue their good form before stumps were drawn early when an outright result failed to materialise.

Greystanes has the BYE next round so the next match is not until October 25 again away against Norwest CC.

Umpire duties will be posted when available.

Greystanes Win Exciting Round 1 Match

Chasing only 34 runs to win with 7 wickets in hand, Greystanes was expecting an easy 1st innings victory and an early day as play began on Day 2 of their first round clash with Wenty Leagues.

However, with Glenn O'Connor bed ridden with the flu and the early dismissals of Cam Imbesi for 38 and Steve Denner for 1, Greystanes were in a spot of bother.  That trouble soon turned dire when with only one wicket in hand, Greystanes still required 21 runs to win.

Buoyed by a run of cheap wickets, the Wenty bowlers could sense a remarkable victory for them as last man in Enoch Harris walked to the wicket to join Nick Nardo.

But despite a view nervous moments, Harris and Nardo started to play some very nice shots including a six each and whilst the atmosphere was tense, they calmly compiled not only the 21 runs required, but a further 15 run lead before Nardo was dismissed.

The Wenty team decided to bat on really for practice and when Wayne Agius took 5 of the first 6 wickets, the Wenty team looked set for a disastrous collapse.

However, they stabilised and one of their batsmen hit an unbeaten 55 and they declared early in the last session to set Greystanes 125 for victory with time only for 15-20 overs before the end of the day.

Angelo Buultjens opened with Cam Imbesi and clearly made his intentions known, but fell for 13 runs (12 in boundaries) and Greystanes were 1/18.

Clayton Meteyard and Cam Imbesi, who was batting on one leg and with a runner, started to play shots with Imbesi playing some lovely cut shots and the pair started hitting some big scores with some overs costing Wenty in excess of 10 runs.

When Meteyard was dismissed for 32 in even time, the score was well within reach and whilst Hoban and Nardo did little, Will Graham steered the team home with little light left in the day.  Cam Imbesi was the star however and was dismissed for 50 right before the end.

A surprising Outright victory for Greystanes considering that they played most of the match short due and came within 1 wicket of losing the match on First Innings.

Day 1 Report

Greystanes began Season 2003/04 in unusual circumstances but by the end of the first day found themselves on top and should take first innings points early next week.

At the start of play, Greystanes found themselves only with 7 players to take the field as a variety of late pull-outs and people seemingly getting "lost" to the ground resulted in a severely  depleted lineup.  Worse still, all the players in transit to the ground were the Greystanes bowling attack which resulted in young Simon Agius having to take the new ball along with skipper Terry Hoban.

The good news was that the Wenty Leagues had not been too diligent on the training paddock and quickly lost 3 early wickets.  Whilst they had a bit of a middle order comeback, Greystanes were able to keep the pressure on with Nick Nardo surprising many by taking two wickets in a 6 over spell either side of drinks and this got Greystanes back into the game and ultimately dismiss Wenty for 131.

Chasing, the early loss of Clayton Meteyard (7) was overcome by some steady batting from new opener on debut Will Graham and Cam Imbesi.  The score went along nicely and when Will Graham was dismissed for 19, Angelo Buultjens stepped in and continued until he too was dismissed in the last over of the day again for 19.

Scorecard:  Wenty Leagues 131 (T.Hoban 4/22, N.Nardo 2/28).  Greystanes 3/97 (C.Imbesi 33*, W.Graham 19, A.Buultjens 19).  Stumps Day One
